Edinburgh Cape Society

Fri 6 Jan 2012: Happy New Year; The January Meeting cum Manor is, again, a traditional, informal gathering at which guests are welcome.; We'll meet at Robbie's Bar in Leith Walk any time after 7pm.

Report: Two Knights, Colin and Steve, met at the foot of Lochend Road around quarter to eight and walked up Leith Walk to arrive in Robbie's Bar around 8pm. No other Knights were to be seen or heard from that point on, although Martin did text to threaten a late arrival post 10.30pm. Stewart Brewery had No. 3 and Edinburgh Gold on tap in Robbie's and a few pints of each were enjoyed before Colin mentioned the famous Edinburgh rock, cover-outfit 'Size Queen' were playing the Banshee Labyrinth in Niddry Street. Colin and Steve left Robbie's around 9.30 in search of said 'rock'. A �5 cover charge for the band was paid and a few pints and 'Black Deaths' were downed in the company of some technically gifted musicians and the awesome Queenie pipes. A Colin's favourite, 'Ace of Spades', rounded off the gig and the gang, including Colin's daughter, Kirsty, retired upstairs to the bar for more drink and chat (note a past member of The Society joined the company at that point, unsure which one). It was past midnight but the night was declared, "still young", so Colin and Steve headed for The Bongo Club opposite Murray House College where musical horizons and dance moves were expanded (and the Knights felt 'a bit old'). The two Knights lumbered home down Easter Road in the early hours of Sunday, past the old 'Stag & Turret' (a former Cape Hall). A top night.
