The evening began in very informal fashion. In fact, it took until about midnight for the first formal part of the evening to take off! This was after a lot of good beer, wine and food (which was provided by Neil, William, George and Geoff) was heartily consumed. Geoff did a now traditional, fantastic stint on the BBQ, including a lot of waitering too! Food choices included the wonderful lamb roast Geoff's becoming famous for, whole chicken, sausages, burgers and chorizo (more on this Spanish flavour to come). George had helped out on the BBQ front by building and welding some custom chicken stands. These were complemented by a favourite Bermudan BBQ chicken trick: a beer can up the bum (Pic8). Nice! Derran added some BBQ fun with his impression of 'chicken man' (see Pic1). Like he needs to pretend to have a chicken's body! (Ha, ha (goes Knight Recorder, laughing at his own joke)). Darren was also on hand, handing out tasty grilled peppers but without his usual techno tunes. Shame. The evening was given some welcome added variety by the arrival, during the evening of three Spanish students (guests of George), George's daughter and Geoff's girlfriend and their well-drilled Jack Russel, Jack. The arrival of the Spaniards prompted Neil and Derran to run off to the shops for more water (read, gin), a favourite of one of the fabulously well-named Spanish students: Nacho-cheese. (Okay, just Nacho.) There were also some flowers for Neil's 'Aunty' Carol. William was first to bring some formality to the evening with a short story on the life of Sir Walter Scott. This was greeted with much cheer by Knights and guests. William and Neil then provided some top class musical entertainment with performances of 'Birks of Invermay' (a favourite of Fergusson to sing in 18th Century Cape Halls) and 'Ae Fond Kiss'. On a more comical note, William used his considerably musical ear to knock out 'Y Viva Espana', 'I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside' and the theme tune to Dad's Army amongst many others. Dave provided his usual brand of comedy. Cornet 'music' was also trumpeted in the wee small hours but the less said about that the better! There were some dog tricks courtesy of Jack the Jack Russel and trainer Geoff. These included some rollovers and playing dead when shot. We'll gloss over the doggy porn that came last! A late night / early morning wine quiz was run by George and won by William’s team before Martin gave thanks to the many contributors to the evening and mainly to Neil for his hospitality. All-in-all, another great Cape Manor.
