27 arrived at the Over-seas League (including one late arrival up from the north east of England), congregating in the second floor bar between 7 and 8 p.m. Among the 19 guests were Bill and Rose, back for their third Feast. William's guest, Morag, was also back for another year. Turtle newcomers included Gill, Ruth, Russell, Karen, Peter, Pauline and Alan. Knights also welcomed the return of Jackie, Malc, Colette, Mary, Helene, Leslie, James, Laura and Carol. Proceedings came to a colourful and cleverly worded start with grace, given by William. Sir Row-an-lea waved lyrical in his toast to Cape, Grand Cape and Herbert, making good use of Cape history information gleaned from the Cape web site. Then it was time for the first song of the evening. Steve (a poor substitute for Jimmy who was sadly absent) gave guitar accompaniment as the gathered company put on a tremendous rendition of the Soup Song (although some of the musically talented individuals in the crowd would probably disagree)! The address to the turtle, ably and beautifully executed by Colin was followed by a meal which most if not all seemed to agree was most excellent with ample portions. Following the meal, Steve toasted absent Knights (probably with one or two many references to pee-ing). For the second song of the evening, the Cape Song, William pulled out his squeeze-box and accompanied Steve as the company, again, did itself proud with a resounding rendition to the glory of goosified spewing! George gave a fine toast to the guests, without whom, the room would have looked very empty and James, with very short notice, gave an equally humorous response. More riotous song (Drinking song) echoed around the room before the raffle was quickly drawn before a few guests sadly had to leave for trains. (The less said about prize-winning structure and whisky the better!) Suffice to say, it all worked out in the end. With the room a little quieter, Dave did an excellent, Leith-oriented McGonagall recital and even included a sort of Jimmy cameo. Sir Meadows then gave an insightful (albeit wide of the mark 'Toast to Grand Sovereign') speech describing a typical turtle feast as it would have played out back in the 18th century. Dave gave his reply, including special thanks to Martin for organising the evening before George ran around the building gathering the staff together before giving a toast to staff and musicians. The staff were well-please with their tuppence. :) Auld lang syne, the loyal toast and a final word from organiser Martin rounded off another fantastic feast. Most guests stayed on to enjoy the company and bar service (which continued to 1 a.m.) For the few who stayed on until around 3am, there was additional entertainment as Jackie and Steve played 500 Miles together at the same time on the one guitar and from Ruth (also on guitar) singing classics including Brian Adams' Summer of '69 and Oasis' Wonderwall.
