Dublin Modern Mega Manor (MMM)
Knights and guests are invited to attend this years Modern Mega Manor (MMM) in Dublin... 4th August - 7th August 2017. The itinerary includes the gold-standard, required tour of the Guinness Brewery and a boat trip along the Liffey. What? No Wetherspoon's in Dublin city centre? (Cries of, "Scandalous!" from certain Knights; sighs of relief from others.)
Meet at Edinburgh Airport early in the morning for pre-flight conviviality. Guests welcome.

The latest Edinburgh Cape Society Modern Mega Manor took off in the early hours, courtesy of Ryanair, bound for Dublin. On arrival, Knights travelled by bus to the city centre before dumping bags and meeting up in the Portobello Bar for the trip's first pint of Guinness. Unfortunately, although relatively cheap, it wasn't a patch on what was on offer later in the day at the Guinness Storehouse. So, Knights and Ladies moved a few metres down the canal to the more pleasant environment of The Barge where a free sample of Guinness and blackcurrent was offered by the very hospitable bar staff. Knights and guests went to their separate hotels to check-in before heading for a rendezevous at the Guinness Storehouse where all manor of sights and flavours were enjoyed. We headed to Charlies Chinese for some of the best value food in Dublin (saving Abra Kebabra for later). Then it was on to O'Neill's near Dave and Carol's hotel to mix it up with a revolving turnover of American and Spanish tourists (Liverpool were due to play Athletico Bilbao the following day.) A good but long day: time for bed (or an unwelcome eighties disco if you were staying at the Leeson).
Saturday's meet-up hostelry of conviviality was Lotts by the Ha'penny bridge. It was close to the pier where the scheduled Liffy riverboat trip was due to depart. Knights and Ladies boarded the riverboat for an informative and timely tour: 45 minutes: just right. One insider tip from the tour guide Rob fell on finely tuned Cape ears: The Pavillion Bar in the grounds of Trinity College was an oasis in a crowded city and a bit cheaper than your average Temple Bar establishment. After disembarking, we headed up O'Connell Street and popped in to the historically significant Post Office building before diving in to the Palace Bar to enjoy the company of a few locals watching hurling and gaelic football. We moved on to Trinity College and the Pavillion Bar for drinks and food before sauntering back to Temple Bar and a vistit to Phil Lynott and McDaids. The Duke was the final stop of the day where tiredness caught up with many of the squad and we called it a night.
Sunday's plan was a trip via the DART train to the small fishing village of Howth, only 25 minutes from Dublin. We wandered around, taking in seals and lots of fish before a quick drink in Wrights Findlater Howth. We continued on around the harbour before a heavy shower forced us to take shelter in The Abbey Tavern. where we enjoyed a nice Irish Teeling whiskey. Then on to McNeills of Howth for another wee swallie before the train back to Dublin. One last visit to Lotts for some fine steak and some live music in Fitzsimons and the Temple Bar Hotel (Buskers) (for Steve and Helena) and a carry-oot on Dave and Carol's hotel balcony for the remainder of the party polished off another successful MMM!
