Where to start!? Well, at the airport I suppose. Carol, Dave, Dez, Phil, Colin, Anne, Helena, Steve and Martin were all up at the early hour of 3 a.m. Most travelled in a shared taxi to Edinburgh airport while Steve and Helena drove from Stirling. So, we're at Edinburgh airport, it must be time for over-priced haggis before boarding the plane and landing after two hours in Prague. The MMM Crew was greeted by a taxi kindly arranged by Martin and was swiftly taken to the reception area of the 'Old Town Apartments' on Stuparska Street. The crew dumped its gear and was pounding the streets of Prague by 10 a.m.: good work. Brunch was taken at Restaurant Baterka where Dez wasted no time and dived deep in to Czech culture by ordering a round of the digestive-aid: becherovka. A walk along the river Vlatva preceded a boat trip along said river. Throw in a few beers and oodles of sunshine: magic. Brewery boat Lod Pivovar was the next stop where Anne particulary enjoyed the Monarchie. It was approaching 2 p.m.: time to collect apartment keys and freshen up... With more quality Czech beer... Some of it provided free by local jay-kays (thanks Gambrinus). Tea was provided courtesy of Mlenjnice, just around the corner from the apartment Dez, Colin and Martin were sharing. The long day was rounded off with cocktails at Cuban cocktail bar La Bodeguita del Medio. The following morning (Saturday), Phil was out and about early, sampling the delights of a hotel breakfast buffet and discovering dangerously named cocktails. Anne, Helena and Steve joined him and the three took a walk across Charles Bridge before settling at the remarkably quiet (considering nearby crowds) Osvezovna U Karlova mostu. Perhaps it was quiet because of some middle of the road reviews shared on the Internet but the food was nice enough. The threesome wandered by the Kafka Museum and back over another bridge before heading for the Old Town Square where the MMM Crew was to assemble prior to a tour of the Clementinum. It wouldn't be a Cape MMM without a cock-up or two and, to cut a long story short, the tour ended up happening the next day. Instead, the MMM Crew sank a few beers in the White Horse before heading for the craft brewing pub U Kunstatu. There was a great choice of beer to sample, including a very peppery one bought by Dave. There was time for some Templova culture, courtesy of Martin, before eating out at Restaurant U Templaru. The long day before (Friday) stared to take its toll but the MMM Crew still managed to hit the 80s bar, the Aloha Wave Lounge and Maestro (The Pub) for cocktails and drinks before hitting the sack. Breakfast for Anne, Steve and Helena was at Prazska Cokoladova. Time to walk off those hot dog sausages with a walk through the New Town and on to Slovansky island. A short break at brewery pub Hlavkuv Dvur, a dip in to Branicka Formanka, a walk in Wenceslas Square and a saunter along the river brought the MMM Trinity back to Lod Pivovar where the remainder of the MMM Crew joined the pary, having toured the Clementinum. Dez and Colin also spent the morning at the castle. A few cooling beers were consumed on another hot day before tea was eaten at La Casa Argentina: a slap-up meal at Mrs Miggins' Pie Shop... at London / Paris prices. It was a fine (if expensive) way to round of the latest Cape MMM. Thanks were given to the Worthy Sovereign for his part in organising the Manor and there was plenty deserved back slapping all-round. Here's to the next Modern Mega Manor!
