Another loud knock on heaven's door by The Cape Society with probably the worst-in-history
turn-out on the greens and fairways of Bruntsfield for the annual Pitch 'n' Putt competition.
Only two Knights slugged it out over the first nine holes of the 36 hole course.
On the plus side, it was a fine evening and plenty other golfers were out enjoying the evening.
There was also choral music from Barclay church to enjoy.
Thankfully, the picnickers (not gallery thieves) were all elsewhere in the Meadows.
After tee-ing off, the scoring was fairly lax, with Colin starting out by scoring on a hole-by-hole basis:
the annual Cape Pitch 'n' Putt competition has never been scored that way.
Colin did then offer to produce scorecards but Steve considered this a drain on the planet.
Suffice to say, after a wayward round which included Steve
pinpointing and playing the five pin instead of the three pin (hidden by the downhill angle), both final scores were
around the forties and Colin's total stroke score four less than Steve's. So, Colin is this year's wee laddie trophy winner: fairly
fitting as it's probably been gathering dust in his house for at least 10 years. Congratulations Colin.
As all the car owners in the area breathed a collective sigh of relief, Steve and Colin headed back to
Bennets to join Martin and Phil. It was a day before Phil's birthday so happy returns were verbally presented
and Steve gave a toast to the memory of North Leith who died six years ago.
After a few pints and a good whisky, provided by the new wee laddie, it was time for bed.
Thanks to everyone who came to stroke Worthy Sovereign's balls in thanks for proposing tradition be
kept alive; at least for this year.
