- The January Manor will be an informal, mini Burns Night.

Two junior (Nick and Daisy), four senior (Jackie, Mary, Hannah and Helene) and one baby guest (Carla),
as well as four tangible (Martin, Colin, Derran and Steve) and one digital Knight (Carsten) enjoyed the hospitality of Derran
on an amazing mini Burns Night. The evening embarked with The Selkirk Grace eminently well read over Skype
with a Danish-Scottish accent by Carsten. Then the haggis was 'piped' in by Derran and Colin, with Colin
providing a whisky guard of honour. Added to the table with the haggis was traditional neeps and non-traditional
baked tatties. Courtesy of Jackie, there was also
delightful deep-fried haggis balls in batter, vegetarian haggis, neep and tatties samosas
and a choice of mustard and whisky mayo dips. This was all complemented with Aberlour,
Glenrothes Special Reserve, Isle of Jura and Glenmorangie whiskies, all plus 12 years.
All the Knights played a part in addressing the haggis
before the ample table was ravaged by hungry Burns appreciators. YouTube provided some interesting background
music, including Burns readings and some Paolo Nutini wae, 'A Man's a Man for A' That'.
After-dinner entertainment included a Burns quiz (see the pictures), compiled and compered by Derran.
The first and only prize of a box of choccies was won by Jackie!
There were also Burns readings by Nick and Daisy as well as some piano playing by Nick:
the Braveheart movie theme music and some jazz. Colin also gave a bright, animated, magical and invigorating recital of
Burns' poem 'The Death and Dying Words of Poor Mailie, The Author's only Pet Yowe! An Unco Mournfu' Tale',
completely off by heart! The 'formal' part of the evening crescendo-ed with everyone bawlin' Auld Lang Syne. Jackie, Nick, Martin and Mary left the company as
the wee small hours approached, although, magically, like the shopkeeper in Mr Benn, Martin reappeared after
seeing his Good Lady safely home. The remainder of the night and early morning was consumed by chat and whisky.
Thanks again to Derran for organising and hosting a great night. And thanks also to Jackie for a very
tasty contribution. Haggis balls. Yummy!
