Cape Artefacts

*** Note the day of this Manor is a Saturday ***

The Society reckons the chances of a private viewing of the Cape artefacts held at the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street are so slim, it's better off taking the public approach. To this end, it'll view the artefacts with the plebs and, given the relatively short time this will take, we may also take in Greyfriars Kirkyard and Bristo Square.
Meet in the Royal Oak anytime between 2 and 2.30 p.m. We'll leave at 2.30 p.m. Guests welcome.
Report
After some to-ing and fro-ing between the museum and the Royal Oak, Anne, Derry, Colin, Martin and Steve congregated in the Royal Oak for a beer before heading to the museum where they were met by Derran, Helene, Helene's friend Sanne and little Karla. As predicted, viewing the artefacts took very little time although Knights were intrigued to see an inscription on one of the pokers. It was too difficult to read but warrants an enquiry of the museum. Conversation turned to green oriental bodily fluids: perhaps a reflection on how quickly the artefacts can be taken in! Knights and guests headed for Greyfriars Kirkyard and took in the plaque to McGonagall (whose poems are a feature of each Turtle Feast) and the memorial to the Covenanters. No one was able to find the grave of Thomas Riddle, said to be the inspiration for the birth name of Lord Voldemort of Harry Potter fame. Next stop was Bodeco Do Brasil by Bristo Square where Knights ate, drank mojitos and tried to run off without paying: well, to be fair, the billing system was very complex and mistakes easily made! Ask Dez about his amazing chef-can-make-you-anything, fillet of beef, chilli (or don't). Colin, Martin, Steve and Derran were the only ones to continue on from this point. Captains Bar was rejected on the basis of the folk music emanating so the Brass Monkey in Drummond Street was the next stop. Colin mentioned Lewis Hamilton was playing Whistlebinkies so all Knights made a short trip to listen to some music. There's no denying Lewis's guitar playing skills are excellent, especially considering his tender years but he needs to hire a decent singer and ditch the bass player (his dad). Steve left at this point leaving Derran, Martin and Colin to carry on (which they did: to No.1 High Street, Hebrides and Stand Comedy Club to see almost-as-gutter-mouth-as-some-bad-Cape-chat, Janey Godley. Perhaps more on this when one of them has given a more detailed report.)

Thanks to everyone who supported the Manor.
