Phil, Martin, Steve and Colin were scheduled to meet in the Tolbooth Tavern but,
as the first to arrive, Martin reported it was closed!
Never mind, there are plenty pubs in the area so Knights piled in to the
Kilderkin for a pre-grave pint. Upon reaching Canongate Kirkyard, Knights were taken aback by the large number
of folk wandering the graveyard before it became clear a 'walking tour' was
prowling around the Edinburgh night. The customary graveside visit went off as normal with
the small exception that, instead of reading some of Fergusson's poetry,
Steve recounted a couple of stories from Sir Precentor's youth,
recently stumbled upon by him in a book of 'Eminent Scotsmen' found in Stirling library.
One related to Fergusson mimicking a sailor and fooling his close friends.
The customary satisfaction of one of Fergusson's final requests (sadly, unfulfilled at the time)
was taken care of, courtesy of Scotland's finest whisky, a High Commissioner. Here's hoping
your soul and bones are a tad warmer now Rab.
The primary business of the evening complete, Knights retired to the Kilderkin for a few
more libations before Steve left for the evening and the remaining Knights took advantage
of very reasonable prices in Middleton's in Easter Road to finish off the evening.
