The Gallipoli Campaign (and Leith)

"The next meeting of Leith Local History Society is on Tuesday, 20th February 2024 in Leith Community Centre, New Kirkgate, Leith. This months talk is by David Clarke on The Gallipoli Campaign. Many Leith survivors of the Gretna rail disaster were later shipped out to die at Gallipoli. We hope to see you next Tuesday and bring a friend."

Meet inside the Leith Community Centre, New Kirkgate, Leith in time for a 19.00 start. £2 entry fee (non-LHS-members).

This 'Manor' was retrospectively designated the February Manor when a firm decision as to what the 'actual' Manor should be was still to be reached and this last-minute discovery which roughly coincided with the final Wednesday of the month had already been and gone; attended by three Knights. It wasn't completely out of reason or place as The Cape had been a guest of talks organised by the Leith Historical Society before. One could argue another visit was overdue as the last attendance was a talk on The Gladstones back in March 2014 (preceding a Grand Cape Meeting). Martin, Colin and Phil attended and Martin and Colin remarked on the quality of the speaker, David C. Clarke, who was excellent at giving an insight in to the Gallipoli Campaign and its, sadly, parlous and ultimately dolorous connection with Leith. A few, possibly final, drinks at the rumoured soon-to-close Foot o' the Walk Wetherspoons were enjoyed after the main event.
